Why Codeable Reviews exists

This site was started in 2017 by a former Codeable client. I am not a competitor, not a developer, and not affiliated with Codeable in any way. I am someone who hired them, paid them, and got burned.

What happened to me

I hired Codeable to build a WordPress site with a budget of just over $10,000. The project was promised in eight to ten weeks. Eight months later it was still nowhere near finished. I was passed between three developers who did not talk to each other, there was no project management of any kind, and what I finally received was an incomplete site in a zip file with code so poor that other developers refused to touch it. I had to start over from scratch with someone else.

Codeable’s CEO promised me a refund in writing. Codeable then refused to honor it. My credit card company could not help because the project had dragged on past the dispute window, and because Codeable told them the services had been provided. You can read the full account in the first review on this site.

Why I built this instead of walking away

When I went to rate the developers on Codeable’s own platform, I could not. Codeable does not let an unhappy client leave a negative rating, and once my project ended they removed my access entirely. The glowing reviews you find when you search for Codeable are the ones they allow. The bad ones have nowhere to go.

So I gave them somewhere to go. Since 2017, this site has published the experiences of other Codeable clients, in their own words, with their names and contact details withheld.

What this site is, and is not

  • Independent. No advertising, no sponsorship, no affiliate links, no relationship with any platform mentioned here, including the ones we recommend as alternatives.
  • Client-only. We publish the experiences of people who hired Codeable. We do not publish testimonials from Codeable developers or staff about how great the platform is; they have Codeable’s own site for that.
  • Negative on purpose. We do not post positive reviews. Codeable blocked mine, so this site exists to carry the ones they block.
  • Opinion, not verdict. Every review is the personal experience and opinion of the person who sent it. We read each one before publishing and we publish it as received, with light spelling cleanup at most. We do not investigate claims and we cannot verify them.

How submissions are handled

When you submit a review, we record the time it arrived and the network address it came from, and we keep your email address so we can contact you if something needs clarifying. None of that is ever published, sold or shared. Only your story appears on the site, and only after a person has read it. The details are on the privacy page.

If you want a review taken down, whether it is yours or about you, use the same form and say so, from the email address the review was submitted with.

Before you hire anyone

Read the FAQ. It covers the things I wish I had understood before paying: the money-back guarantee that gives no money back, the “escrow” that is just their bank account, what happens when a project breaks down, and why chargebacks usually fail. Then read the reviews. Then decide.
